De-Stressing With Essential Oils

It’s so easy to get caught up in the hectic-ness of everyday life (especially if you live in a fast-paced, big city) and constantly have to balance multiple responsibilities. I tend to get stressed out easily if I don’t remember to take the time to care for myself…which is why I love using essential oils and aromatherapy to ease any tension. I was never big on aromatherapy until I noticed that I developed anxiety from being constantly overwhelmed with school, work, and life in general. My neck and shoulder areas were ALWAYS tense and in knots and I got headaches frequently, so I wanted something natural and inexpensive. After a rare trip to a spa, I noticed that they used eucalyptus oils in their steam rooms…which is really what started my obsession with aromatherapy and remedying stress-related concerns with natural oils.

ESSENTIAL OILS

For easing stress and anxiety, my two go-to oils are peppermint and eucalyptus. Peppermint is amazing for headaches and migraines (which I get often) and eucalyptus oil is great for congestion and for preventing illness (especially during flu season). But in general, both of these oils are great for de-stressing, and creating a relaxed environment at home. Here’s how I use them:

DIFFUSERS

I recently bought a travel nebulizer (pictured, bottom left) from Saje. It’s perfect because you can plug it into the USB outlet of your laptop and bring it with you if you’re at the office or travelling. And it’s perfect because it humidifies the air slightly (SO necessary during the harsh East coast winters) and diffuses the essential oils into the air (while also purifying the air!). I just fill up the nebulizer with water and add 10 drops of peppermint oil and 5 drops of eucalyptus. Saje has a lot of diffuser oil blends too (I kept coming back after a friend gave me a de-stressing mist from Saje a while back when I was super stressed out, so this is my go-to place for essential oil products).

EPSOM SALTS

Baths are also an instant relaxing pick-me-up if you’re feeling stressed, anxious and under the weather. I love using Epsom salts (I pick up a huge bag at the drugstore…so inexpensive and worth it!) and add around 10 drops of essential oils to the bath. I mix a few drops of Carrier oil from Saje (pictured) to dilute the essential oils because I have really sensitive skin and essential oils can sometimes irritate my skin when used alone. Paired with a few candles in the background…it’s the best inexpensive way to de-stress.

MISTS

I picked up the Stress Relief Antistress Pillow Mist in “Eucalyptus Spearmint” from Bath & Body Works and it works wonders with relieving stress right before bedtime. If you want to make your own stress relief spray at home, try mixing a few drops of essential oils with water in a spray-bottle and spritz on your sheets before bed.
Let me know your experiences with essential oils and what you do to de-stress at home!
